If 'not being a jerk' was a qualification for being in the HoF I doubt Ty Cobb would have made it. Ichiro should be there when he retires. I've also seen him play and he couldn't get a hit against Josh Towers!

I'm curious, I've not heard anything about a bad attitude. State your source.

Try following a west coast team, it certainly isn't news there. Ask why he refused to play centre field while you're at it, and why several of his team mates don't get on with him. The guy only cares about himself, and his precious stats. Could he hit for more home runs? Probably, but he'd have to give up a lot of hits to do it, and that doesn't suit his ego one little bit.

It also doesn't suit his game as his speed is definately more of an asset than his power ever would be (I am still completely baffled by the whole "He could hit more home runs if he wanted to" thing. He doesn't hit home runs so who cares?).

He has played plenty of centre field and now he has Gutierrez doing very nicely out there but admittedly he could have played there more often.

The lid blew off his attitude in 20078; it was all over the blogs and forums in the west, even Lookout Landing. It was suppressed on there after a while, they are an SBNation site after all, nowhere near as sycophantic as Beane Nation, but they do toe the line mostly. He wasn't the main culprit for the locker room discord, that was Sexon, but he was held responisble for much of it by a lot of Mariner watchers.

It always amazes me that so few people seem to know about the problems Ichiro causes and the special privileges he demands. He is a very talented player but he is also one of the most selfish players about and cares more about his batting average that the team. I remember reading a while ago that while he was going for the single season hit record he decided to bunt for a hit rather than trying to drive in a runner from second with 2 outs while the Mariners trailed late in a game.

I've never heard this. I beleive you and Galraen, but it just comes as a bit of a shock, if u wathc him on the field, he just looks like he wants to play and play hard.

Well, guess i focus more on the East coast side of things, so i dont see many Mariners games.

I'd still take his 200+ hits every year and have to put up with a attitude.

With some teams his approach wouldn't be too much of a problem maybe, as I've referenced before, team chemistry can be over rated. Bad chemistry if it's confined to off the field of play doesn't really matter that much if once the game starts everyone's focussed on winning.

With some teams his approach wouldn't be too much of a problem maybe, as I've referenced before, team chemistry can be over rated, if the bad vines carries over into the game, then, as in'08 with the Mariners, then it is a season wrecker.

The A's in the early seventies would fight like cat and dog right up until the first pitch, then everyone focussed winning the game. After the game thy'd be back to fighting, literally. In one WS game two of the A's pitchers started punching each other out whilst they were still on the field. Vida Blue, who had been brought in to put out a fire in the ninth started taunting Blue Moon Odom (who he'd relieved) about being a choker, next thing you know they're trying to punch each other's lights out. Next day at game time though, it was business as usual.
